Most of those iPad babies you’re seeing are probably sick of that fucking tablet too.
A lot of parents are very bad at parenting and don’t like their children. They don’t want to talk to them, be around them or do anything with them. You know, the things kids need and will remember the most once they’re grown.
So they train them from an early age that they should always be distracting themselves with something as to not be in the way or annoying the adults.
For me it was books and TV when I was little, and computers later on. That’s all I did because it was all I could do without getting yelled at, and it was the closest to human interaction I could get most of the time.
Everyone loves to make fun of & complain about iPad kids but nobody thinks about the struggle of navigating life as an adult when you were forced to spend your entire childhood keeping yourself distracted so your parents didn’t have to acknowledge your existence.
One time in highschool our teacher said that it was never under any circumstances okay for a boy to hit a girl and I asked “not even in self defense?” and he said “no” so I pointed to the kid next to me and said “so if I just started whaling on this guy then he’d just have to take it? What the hell” and he was like “you two have had the same homeroom for three years do you not know his name” and I was like “that’s not the point right now” and Mr. K if you’re out there reading this I’m still mad about it
the argument actually took up most of the class after that but there was a point where he said “why do you want men to hit women so badly?” And I answered “I don’t want anybody to hit anybody, I just think assuming that no woman you meet could possibly hurt you is kind of insulting” and I didn’t WIN per se but you could kind of feel the air shift as the conversation went from “chivalry good” to “girls might WANT to kick your ass”
Anyhow it’s been like 15 years now but I still swear by “capacity for harm is not gender-specific”, “nobody should be hurting anybody”, “men can be abused too”, and “gender equality means accepting that women CAN hurt you” so suck it, Mr. K
Your goal should be to get weirder with age and im not kidding. Become that odd estranged extended family member that owns a whacky home wherein a powerful magical item is kept that is the catalyst for the story of a children’s adventure novel protagonist
never thought i’d be saying this as a nepali person but the rest of the world has a lot to learn from nepal when it comes to revolution lol
young people literally spent two days showing the full force of their wrath against a horrific, corrupt system run by politicians that embezzled away every single cent of citizen money. they protested, and when the cops turned to violence, they did too. many of the biggest and most corrupt politicians (including the prime minister) were forced to resign, had their houses swarmed by crowds of furious people, were beat within an inch of their lives, and had their money thrown out onto the streets.
real, actual change is on the way in a country plagued by exploitation and poverty and corruption for DECADES because the population rallied together behind the sheer force of the young population and their anger - so much so that it’s being called the gen z revolution. THIS is how revolutions come about when every attempt to use peaceful means is met with bullets and suppression and social media bans in an effort to shut people up. and i think the west has a lot to learn about what true revolution and true progression is, because the way that our political discourse is so weak and watered down and pushed to be ‘friendly’ and ‘understanding’ is so pathetic at times. THERE IS NO NEGOTIATING WITH YOUR OPPRESSORS.

The US is crazy bc like so many people have intense conspiracy theories about the government like “I think there’s a secret elite group of people who control everything” and you can tell them “actually you’re not completely wrong, it’s just not a secret group of people, it’s a bunch of rich people and lobbyists who are doing it all out in the open” and they’ll be like “hmmn I don’t think it’s THOSE people though. I prefer my racist & antisemitic theories”
